The week before the Oscars — Feb. 18 to 24 — will be marked by swag suites and swanky parties. And as The New York Times points out, it will be chalk full of presidential candidates. There’s the already announced, much anticipated Dreamworks trio’s fund raiser for Barack Obama on Feb. 20, and two recently added events: Joe Biden attends a fund raiser at the home of real estate investor Dick Ziman on Feb. 21; and Hillary Clinton appears on Feb. 22 at the homes of Haim Saban and Sim Farar. The latter events had been scheduled for Feb. 11 but were switched to the new date.
Why the crush? Lawmakers get a President’s Day week recess, providing a window to wing it west. Others planning fund raising events include Barbara Boxer, Steny Hoyer and Dick Durbin.
There’s also Al Gore, who many wish would run for President, but will have his sights set on an Academy Award. On the same day that Clinton raises money in Hollywood, Gore will be at the home of Peter Guber for an Oscar party in his honor that is sponsored by Entertainment Weekly.
