Walk Disney sees the light

Company promotes energy efficiency

In conjunction with the Dept. of Energy, the Walt Disney Co. has produced a 30-second animated TV spot promoting energy efficiency through the use of compact fluorescent lighting (CFL). Spot, which debuts on cable channels nationwide today , includes characters from Disney-Pixar’s forthcoming feature toon “Ratatouille.”

Characters Remy, Emile and Skinner encourage kids and grownups alike to switch to CFL. They send viewers to the Energy.gov Web site for more info on all energy reusable or renewable.

“Combining the energy expertise of the Dept. of Energy with the promotional ingenuity of Disney is a unique way to raise energy awareness,” Energy secretary Samuel W. Bodman said in a statement. “I hope this will be the first project in a continuing effort to leverage the resources of the entertainment industry and government to encourage smart energy choices.”

Spots will air throughout the summer, with an emphasis on California and Virginia.
