Guild is first labor union to receive honor

SAG’s getting a star on Hollywood Boulevard.

The Screen Actors Guild announced Thursday that it’s been awarded an Award of Excellence star from Hollywood Historic Trust, representing only the fifth organization and the first labor union to receive the nod.

SAG member (and honorary Hollywood mayor) Johnny Grant will present the star Oct. 25 in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, site of the guild’s first membership meeting in 1933. Event will mark the kickoff for SAG’s yearlong celebration of its 75th anniversary.

The star will be funded by contributions to the SAG Foundation, including a sponsorship by Ford Motor, which will supply hybrid vehicles to ferry guests to the celebration.
