MONTREAL — Revenues were up last year for Canada’s cable and satellite operators, according to a report from broadcast regulator the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission.
Revenues for cable operators increased 12% to C$6 billion ($5.7 billion) last year, from $5 billion in 2005, on profit before interest and taxes of $1.3 billion. There were 7.4 million cable subscribers in Canada last year.
Revenues for satellite companies surged 17.7% in 2006 to $1.6 billion, up from $1.4 billion a year earlier, on profit before taxes and interest of $35 million, down from $43 million the previous year. Satellite subs increased 5.6% year-over-year to 2.6 million.
