At Wednesday’s Diversity Day demonstration at the Paramount gate, former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington gave showrunner Shonda Rimes a big hug and professed his love and admiration, despite his dust-up earlier this year over being removed from the show.
“I’m out here on the picket line because I can’t do what I do without writers and the ones on the show like Shonda and Reggie Rock Blythewood are amazing,” he said. “Contrary to what people in the media want to believe, Shonda’s my hero.”
Even after six weeks of striking, the star power included Kimberly Elsie, Frances Fisher, Katherine Heigl, Orlando Jones, T.R. Knight, Rex Lee, Sara Ramirez and Tracee Ellis Ross. The early afternoon event drew several hundred, with notable scribes including Mara Brock Ali, Warren Hutcherson, Ali LeRoi, Saladin Patterson and Veena Sud.
