Cable networks prep for network battle
Tweaking the competition has long been part of Fox News’ strategy. And the same is true for Fox Business, which launched last week with correspondent Liz MacDonald’s “peacock hunting” quip outside CNBC’s Englewood Cliff’s headquarters.Now Fox Biz is hitting the papers with an ad targeting its TV foe, imitating the newspaper ads CNBC placed during the first week, as well as its slogan, “First in Business. Worldwide.” The Fox ad, fashioned to look like CNBC’s campaign, features the Fox Biz folks and a twist on the slogan: “First in Business. Soon.” Meanwhile, both cablers are buying up local cable ads on each other’s air, urging business viewers to switch sides.
