Director not at fault in death of jaywalker
John Singleton was questioned and released after he struck and killed a female jaywalker Thursday night in L.A.’s Jefferson Park neighborhood.
LAPD spokesman Jason Lee said that the woman – 57-year-old Constance Russell of Los Angeles – was not in a crosswalk when she stepped in front of Singleton’s Lexus SUV.
Lee said that Singleton stopped and identified himself and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The helmer waited at the scene for police and an ambulance to arrive. Russell was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead Friday morning.
Singleton’s debut, 1991 film “Boyz ‘n the Hood,” earned him two Oscar nominations. He is a producer of “Illegal Tender,” which bowed Friday.
