‘Simpsons’ pirate arrested

Australian sends film to P2P sites

An Aussie has had the dubious honor of being the first person arrested in connection with pirating “The Simpsons Movie” after a raid in Sydney overnight Friday.

Copy, filmed July 26 on a mobile phone, was pulled within 72 hours of being uploaded onto the Web, but not before it had hit peer-to-peer sites and been downloaded more 100,000 times. Investigators even discovered that the recording had been turned into an unauthorized Gallic version of the toon blockbuster.

The 21-year-old “Simpsons” pirating suspect, whose name has not been released, will appear in court in Sydney on Oct. 2 and could face up to five years in prison.
