Just as NBC’s “The Office” and “30 Rock” are exiting iTunes, another laffer — CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” — is finally set to debut on Apple’s video download service.
Network-studio wrangling kept the skein out of the download arena for its first two seasons, but CBS and 20th Century Fox have cleared up any differences. As a result, episodes of “Mother” will begin popping up on iTunes on Tuesday, hours after the show’s season three debut.
But the skein won’t be exclusive to Apple. It’ll also be available via Amazon’s Unbox as well. In addition to new segs, the first two seasons of the show will be available for sale.
Twentieth is planning a number of promotional initiatives to pump “Mother’s” digital debut.
Last two episodes of season two will be available as free downloads via iTunes. And viewers who choose to buy season three in advance using Apple’s Season Pass option (or via Amazon) will get bonus content, including an extended remix of the show’s theme (performed by series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas) and a Robin Sparkles musicvideo.
