Well-earned tribute

Dick Van Dyke, sans fanfare, has made regular appearances for/at the Midnight Mission in L.A. and has raised over $5 million for them, now he receives “A Celebration of Caring” tribute Aug.26 at the Universal Hilton hotel.

The toast is from Actors and Others for Animals The event — a vegetarian lunch — will boast Monty Hall as m.c. and participants so far include : Betty White, Brett Butler, Charlotte Rae, Mitzi Gaynor Joanne Worley. Earl Holliman has been President of the organization since 1976.

Van Dyke recently wound the Ben Stiller feature, “A Night at the Museum” and next Hallmark’s “College Can Be Murder” as a criminology professor.
