“Of all the awards and honors I have received over the years, this one — from the bottom of my heart — is the most recent!”
Tuesday’s audience at Washington D.C.’s University Club fell apart laughing with Jack Valenti’s humorous acceptance as he received an award from the Club’s past president John Beck.
But Valenti admitted to me that he stole that acceptance line from Arnold Schwarzenegger, “After I presented him with the Publicists Guild’s Lifetime Achievement award in 2003.” It was also the occasion when Arnold announced he’d run for Governor.
Valenti continues his non-stop speaking tour even before his autobio comes out this fall. The title’s tentatively “An American Saga: The War, The Assassination in Dallas, The White House and 38 years in Hollywood” (Random House).
And Valenti continues to fight the same battles for “freedom and responsibility” as he did while heading the MPAA. Wednesday (May 10) he tackles the FCC at the Cato Institute’s Libertine Group confab.
