Sharon Stone’s appearance at “The Life Ball of Vienna” on May 20 will benefit the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) from 50% of the gala event’s procedes. It’s expected 40,000 will participate in the celebration taking place in front of Vienna‘s City Hall. A major fashion show and dinner are among the ball’s events.
In order to be able make the date, Sharon had to cancel her May 18 appearance at the L.A. Library’s gala on May 16, where she was to have made a presentation to honoree Norman Mailer. Veronique Peck, honorary chairperson of the event, was responsible for getting Sharon to make the awarding. Stone had previously made two appearances at the Gregory Peck Library reading series — one with Keith Carradine, and another with James Woods. Peck says that Sharon has promised to return for another reading appearance as well. Veronique was able to get Anjelica Huston to make the Mailer presentation. She, too, has performed at the Gregory Peck Library’s reading program.
After Vienna, Sharon heads to Cannes for its big amfAR fundraiser, Cinema Against AIDS, on May 25, which is presented by Bold Films, Palisades Pictures and the Weinstein Company. This gala boasts a lively live auction by Stone and Harvey Weinstein. Last year, the auction raised $2 million.
Sharon is amfAR’s fundraising chairperson in its campaign for AIDS research. She’s held the post 10 years. As soon as she returns from these fundraisers, Stone moves into her $10 million-plus house in the Beverly Hills adjacent area.
