11 million viewers tuning into pubcaster
BERLIN — Basking in the glow of the record-breaking popularity of last summer’s World Cup, held in Germany, soccer remains the undisputed ratings king here, with nearly 11 million viewers tuning into pubcaster ZDF on Wednesday night to watch Germany play a 1-1 tie in a dreary match against Cyprus.
Web reported aud peaked at 13.5 million during the first half of the match, played in Nicosia.
Some 29.5 million TV viewers (84% share) saw Italy beat Germany in the World Cup semi-final match on ZDF, breaking all records.
Even after Germany was eliminated, 26 million (72% share) watched the final on rival pubcaster ARD played between Italy and France.
