Sci Fi to ride Foxtel Down Under

Channel set to launch in Australia via feevee operator

SYDNEY — Sci Fi channel is set to launch Down Under via feevee operator Foxtel.

Channel will be run by TV1 General Entertainment Partnership, which is a joint venture between NBC Universal, CBS Paramount Intl. Television and Sony Pictures Intl. Television.

Channel will bow Dec. 1, giving Aussie auds access to fare such as the “Star Trek” and “Stargate” franchises.

Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s TV and marketing topper, said the new channel was part of the feevee’s push into summer, the off-ratings period that is traditionally the feevee’s strongest time.

“Sci Fi is an established brand in mature television markets such as the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and given the popularity of the genre in Australia, there is no doubt it will be a hit,” Walsh said.
