Delegation looking for buyers in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO — A delegation of about 30 French production companies, nets and distribs is in Rio for French TV Showcase, a seminar and business meetings to be held Dec. 11-13. Event aims to increase the sales of French TV programming and pics to Brazil and boost the countries’ co-productions.
TV France Intl. (TVFI), the government-backed association of French television program exporters, is the event’s sponsor. The French embassy in Brazil and the Brazilian Assn. of Independent TV Producers (ABPI-TV) are co-organizers.
Four French broadcasting nets will participate in the Showcase. International sales manager Dimitri Stephanides will represent TF1 Intl.
Sales director Emmanuelle Erbsman and commissioning editor Christoph Jorg will attend for French-German pubcaster Arte. Pubcaster France 5 will send doc production director Caroline Behar. International marketing and sales director Gregory Chambet will rep M6.
The largest production companies in the Showcase are Gedeon Programs, Marathon Intl. and MK2.
“The presence of Gedeon is particularly interesting,” says French embassy’s audiovisual attache Christian Boudier. “They are seeking for a local co-producer for ‘Amazonas,’ an environmental feature set in Brazil’s Amazon rain forest, a sort of green version of the company’s hit ‘The White Planet.’ ”
Several Brazilian broadcasters and pay TV programmers, such as TV Globo, SBT, TV Record and Globosat, will send buyers to the event, Boudier says, adding that organizers have also invited buyers from about 20 nets in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Uruguay.
