Premiere grabs blockbusters

Paybox seeks to compensate for loss of soccer

BERLIN — Looking to bounce back after losing out top league national soccer to upstart pay TV rival Arena, Premiere is boasting a blockbuster lineup for 2007 that includes the pay TV premiere of “Casino Royale.”

Seeking to make do without its most popular sport, Premiere has acquired a slew of top titles, including most of 2006’s biggest moneymakers such as “Ice Age: The Meltdown,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and “The Da Vinci Code.”

“2006 was a distinctly strong year at the cinema and Premiere viewers will be the first in German television to benefit,” said Premiere programming chief Hans Seger. “Box office admissions increased by 10% due to the outstanding quality of these productions.”

Also coming to Premiere next year are “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” “Brokeback Mountain” and “Walk the Line.”
