World Brief

Cricket-heavy net Neo Sports will have its preem on News Corp.’s STAR TV platform by the end of the year.

Net’s launch is the first move into branded TV channel operation by Nimbus Communications, a sports and entertainment group that handles rights and airtime sales. Nimbus recently paid $612 million for worldwide rights to all international cricket matches played in India until 2010.

New channel will screen cricket nearly 200 days per year. It will be followed by debut of Neo Sports Plus, a sports entertainment net.

STAR India is contracted to carry the channels under a five-year exclusive deal and will distribute in India via cable, its newly launched DTH joint venture Tata Sky and on radio.
