MTV, Nick ink to bow in Pakistan

Channels launch following agreement

MTV and Nickelodeon have launched in Pakistan following an agreement between MTV Networks Intl. and local operators Indus Media Group and ARY Digital Network.

MTV Pakistan, which bowed Tuesday, is available in 3.5 million cable and satellite households and is combo’s 57th localized channel.

It replaces the Indus Music channel and will feature Pakistani acts such as Junoon, the Sabri Brothers and Amanat Ali plus international fare including “MTV Hip Hop,” “MTV Brand New” and “The MTV Europe Music Awards.”

“These new channels enable us to showcase Pakistan’s unique and vibrant culture, while celebrating the diversity of music and common experiences among kids and young people,” said Bill Roedy, prexy of MTV Networks Intl. “MTV Pakistan is a channel for Pakistanis made by Pakistanis and managed by Pakistanis.”

Nickelodeon is available in 2.5 million cable and satellite households in Pakistan via ARY Digital Network.
