‘Idol’ results show rolls

An expanded one-hour results edition of “American Idol” was easily the top-rated program on Wednesday, while NBC’s “Law & Order” ended its season a winner as well.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “American Idol” (10.5 rating/25 share in adults 18-49, 27.1 million viewers overall) was the easy winner at 9 over ABC’s “Lost” (5.9/14 in 18-49, 14.2 million viewers overall), with both down week to week. Also for Fox, “Bones” ended its rookie season with a third-place finish at 8 (3.1/9 in 18-49, 8.9 million viewers overall).

NBC won both at 8 with “Deal or No Deal” (4.1/12 in 18-49, 13.8 million viewers overall) and at 10 with “Law & Order” (4.5/12 in 18-49, 13.5 million viewers overall), slipping to fourth in the tough 9 o’clock hour with “Dateline: To Catch a Predator” (3.1/7 in 18-49, 8.9 million viewers overall).

At CBS, the two-hour finale of “The Amazing Race” (3.4/9 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall) was easily the lowest-rated conclusion of the skein’s nine editions to date. “CSI: NY” closed out its season at 10 with a rare second-place finish (4.4/11 in 18-49, 12.8 million viewers overall).

UPN’s “America’s Next Top Model” (2.8/8 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) impressed at 8 with its finale, winning the hour in adults 18-34 (3.4/11).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 6.8/18; NBC, 3.9/10; ABC, 3.7/10; CBS, 3.7/10; UPN, 1.8/5; WB, 1.0/3.

In total viewers: Fox, 18.0 million; NBC, 12.1 million; CBS, 10.4 million; ABC, 9.4 million; UPN, 3.8 million; WB, 2.3 million.
