Icon Animation sells ‘Lola’ to Nickelodeon Asia

Toon targeting at 6-12 year olds

BARCELONA — Barcelona-based Icon Animation has licensed its top-selling product “Lola & Virginia” to Nickelodeon Asia.

“Lola & Virginia” will be carried on channels in Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Palau, Mongolia, Thailand, Cambodia, Macao, South Pacific Islands and Taiwan.

Toon is a co-production between Icon Animation, giant French TV toon production-distribution house Milli-mages, Gallic pubcaster France 3, Catalan pubcaster TVC and Basque pubcaster ETB.

Deal adds to a swathe of international accords for TV, mobile and publishing rights. Series aired Stateside on digital cable channel Animania from March.

Targeting 6-12 year olds, series turns on the relationship between Lola, a girl from a poor neighborhood, and posh Virginia, who has everything in life. Series’ original idea is from Myriam Ballesteros, Icon’s co-founder with Sergi Reitg.

Icon has also struck sales on kids’ nutritional sketches, “Vitaminix,” closing Asian deals with Disney Channel, Hong Kong Cable, Infiniss and EBS for Korea and Taiwan’s EBC.

Icon’s new series “Sandra, the Fairytale Detective,” has begun promising pre-sales, clinching deals with France’s TF1, Disney in Germany, Italy and Spain, and Cartoon Network in Latin America.”
