‘Grey’s’ finale scores big

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

ABC drama “Grey’s Anatomy” proved it could stand on its own Monday with a powerful perf for its two-hour season finale. The sweep night was disrupted by President Bush’s 8 p.m. ET address to the nation, which pushed back the lineups of CBS and Fox by about 20 minutes in much of the country; NBC and ABC joined programming in progress, so their 9-11 p.m. programming was not delayed.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “Grey’s Anatomy” dominated from 9 to 11 with a 9.7 rating/22 share in adults 18-49 and 22.2 million viewers overall. These numbers are on par with what it scored the previous night behind “Desperate Housewives.”

NBC did well with an expanded episode of “Deal or No Deal” from 8:20 to 10 (roughly 5.0/12 in 18-49, 16.8 million viewers overall) but then fell back at 10 with “The Apprentice 5” (3.3/8 in 18-49, 8.1 million viewers overall).

Numbers are murkier for CBS and Fox, with the latter’s season finale of “Prison Break” expected to come in at about a 4.4/11 in adults 18-49 and 10 million viewers overall, while “24” figures to log about a 5.4/11 in the demo and 13 million viewers overall. At CBS, “CSI: Miami” should average roughly a 5.6 rating in 18-49 and nearly 18 million viewers overall.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 7.5/18; NBC, 4.3/10; Fox, 4.1/10; CBS, 3.8/9; UPN, 1.2/3; WB, 1.1/3.

In total viewers: ABC, 17.7 million; NBC, 13.0 million; CBS, 11.4 million; Fox, 9.9 million; UPN, 2.9 million; WB, 2.7 million.
