Cable net slates first original reality series
G4 has slated its first original reality series, “The Block,” set in a chain of snowboarder-themed hotels, for a January launch.
Comcast’s cable net aimed at young men will produce the action sports series, in which viewers get a glimpse of the Block, a series of hotels that caters to the snowboarding crowd. Rooms are equipped with PS2 vidgame consoles, boot and glove dryers and iPod-compatible mini boom boxes. Guests receive free energy drinks, free beer, snacks, DVDs and PS2 videogames at check-in.
Episodes will follow the hotel’s staffers and clientele — a mix of pro snowboarders and celebrities — as they hit the slopes in the Big Bear Lake and South Lake Tahoe locations.
Veteran snowboarder Marc Frank Montoya and Liko Smith founded the Block and will star in the series.
