China nixes freckle remover TV ad

Commercial banned due to false claims

SHANGHAI — China has banned a TV commercial for a freckle remover that experts say can cause rashes and inflammation and has no effect on freckles.

A probe by consumer affairs show “Weekly Quality Report” on China Central Television found the Spandy Magic Freckle Removing Gel could be poisonous if used incorrectly.

The ban is part of trade watchdog the State Administration of Commerce and Industry’s crack down on adverts with false claims.
