Duo join for joint Euro venture
MGM Networks and Chellomedia, a division of Liberty Global, are launching a joint venture channel in Central Europe with Klaus Michler as its general manager.
The appointment and launch date were unveiled Wednesday by Bruce Tuchman, exec VP for MGM Networks, and Mike Moriarty, Chellomedia Central Europe CEO.
Planned to launch Oct. 26, the MGM Channel Central Europe will be distributed to 1.5 million cable and satellite subs across Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania.
In his new role, Michler will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the channel as it develops distribution and ad sales.
Michler will be based in MGM Networks’ regional headquarters in Munich and will report to the venture’s board of directors.
Michler, who has extensive media experience in Central and Eastern Europe, joins the Lion from Arbo Media in Munich, where he was chief operating officer; before that, he headed marketing and research at Eurosport in Germany.
Two other key appointments to the MGM Channel in Central Europe were named: Sisco Schultis will be the joint venture’s finance director, joining from NBC U Global Networks in Munich; Thorsten Schweer will be the channel’s programming manager, arriving from paybox Premiere in Munich.
MGM and Liberty Global (through subsid Chellomedia) already have a partnership in Latin America running an MGM-branded channel there.
