Canada’s Astral boasts rev increase

Co.'s revenues were up 4% to $129 million

MONTREAL — Canuck niche and pay TV broadcaster Astral Media reported Tuesday that earnings, cash flow and revenue were up in the fourth quarter and for the year, thanks to growth in subscriber and advertising revenue.

For the fourth quarter ended Aug. 31, net earnings from continuing operations increased 3% to C$29.2 million ($25.9 million) compared with the fourth quarter last year. Revenues were up 4% to $129 million.

Cash flow in the quarter was up 8% to $44.6 million, compared with $41.1 million.

Net earnings from continuing operations for the year increased 10% to $102 million, up from $92.5 million the year before. Revenue for the year was up 8% to $526 million. Cash flow for the year was up 11% to $170 million.

Both subscriber and advertising revenue for Astral’s TV division was up 8% from the previous year. Astral also has a radio division, and its revenue increased 7% for the year.
