BBC Worldwide does biz at Discop

BBC shows all the rage in Budapest

Munich — BBC Worldwide sold 500 hours of programming at Eastern European TV market DISCOP in Budapest.

BBC Worldwide inked deals with Romanian net TVR, Croatian HRT, Studio 1+1 in the Ukraine and Kanal Knaks in Estonia. Titles sold include the Beeb’s natural history skein “Planet Earth,” sci-fi drama skein “Doctor Who,” docu-drama “Hannibal,” and ballroom dancing game show “Strictly Come Dancing.”

In addition, it pre-sold “Jane Eyre” to Bulgarian pubcaster Bulgarian TV along with some of its other drama programming including “Spooks,” “Hustle,” “Hotel Babylon,” “Under the Greenwood Tree” and “Waterloo Road.”

Monisha Shah, BBC Worldwide’s Emerging Territories exec said: “The success of these deals highlights the strength of our relationship with Central and Eastern European broadcasters, and we are delighted to be bringing such a diverse selection of BBC programming to their audiences.”
