BBC shares ‘Truth’ with partners

Discovery Health U.S. and ProSieben team up on food skein

LONDON — BBC Worldwide, the pubcaster’s commercial arm, has teamed up with Discovery Health U.S., and Germany’s ProSieben for a new co-production, “The Truth About Food,” which aims to debunk some of the myths about Western eating habits.

Different versions of the skein, which will stage experiments addressing such issues as how to stay slim and good eating habits for children, will be made for the U.K. and Germany.

In Germany, the six-parter will be called “Food Check — Was Essen wirklich kann” and be backed up by locally produced material stripped across the week.

Isabelle Helle, BBC Worldwide’s head of German speaking territories, said: “ProSieben understood from the start the two reasons that make ‘The Truth About Food’ such an important series for BBC Worldwide.

“First, the depth and quality of its research make it the biggest ever undertaking of its kind on television.

“Second, it allows us to work with international partners to package a fantastic format into genuinely bespoke event television across the schedule.”
