Azteca affil hits Texas via TW Cable

Deal goes into effect on June 1

MEXICO CITY — Time Warner Cable signed a carriage deal with Azteca America affiliate Una Vez Mas that covers 400,000 subs in southern Texas.

Deal gives Azteca low-tier carriage, effective June 1, in the San Antonio, Brownsville-McAllen, Corpus Christi areas — markets already served by over-the-air stations — as well as Laredo and El Paso, which weren’t covered.

Dallas-based Una Vez Mas is Azteca America’s largest affíl group, with 17 stations across Texas and the Southwest. Flush with venture capital from Alta Communications, Una Vez Mas launched WUVM-Channel 4 in Atlanta last week.

Los Angeles-based Azteca America also is carried on DirecTV, Comcast Cable and EchoStar’s Dish Latino service and has local cable carriage for most of its 44 over-the-air stations.

With the deal, Azteca America, subsidiary of Mexico’s No. 2 web TV Azteca, now reached around 85% of U.S. Hispanics.
