HONG KONG — TVB Pay Vision, Hong Kong’s smallest paybox, is hoping for a big boost when it launches Wednesday on NOW Broadband TV.
NOW will carry a 16-channel package of TVB content at HK$128 ($16.50) per month and is revamping its electronic program guide to accommodate the newcomers. Package includes new channels — TVB Entertainment News, TVB Life and TVB News 2.
TVB Pay, which has been rebranded several times and was most recently known as Galaxy, is aiming for 300,000 subscribers, up from its current 70,000. Although use of Internet Protocol TVs is still on the launch pad in many territories around the world, NOW has more than 500,000 subscribers and has become a serious alternative to cable.
TVB Pay is available on satellite and Hutchison Global Communications’ cable network. On HGC, it charges $32 a month for 40 channels in a bundle with HGC broadband connectivity.
