LONDON — It was all smiles at Variety‘s annual London Film Fest shindig on Oct. 23 .
At the swanky Sanderson Hotel, film execs and journos rubbed elbows as producer Jeremy Thomas, whose “Fast Food Nation” is playing at the fest, and the U.K. Film Council’s Pete Buckingham and Tine MacFarlane sashayed around the Gatsby-esque decor.
Also making a flying visit was London fest director Sandra Hebron, who praised growing industry involvement in the public fest. “It’s absolutely essential we have strong ties with the industry. It would be impossible to screen the strongest titles without the help of the industry.”
With the perennial talk in some circles of the introduction of a market to London’s noncompetitive lineup, Hebron said, “Look at Toronto: There’s no formal market but a lot of business gets done.”
