Larry David would never have starred in HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” if the show used scripts. “To sit down and memorize lines? No, I’m too lazy,” he said Saturday at the New York Times Arts & Leisure Weekend.
HBO was a staple of the paper’s annual three-day entertainment fest. Sell-out crowds gathered at Gotham’s CUNY Graduate Center to see the female thesps of “The Sopranos,” as well as the cast of “Entourage,” where creator Doug Ellin admitted he didn’t think the series’ first few episodes were very good. “I was so depressed,” he said. “I said to my wife, ‘This show’s going off the air.’ ”
Entertainment types such as Jim Jarmusch, Robert Redford and Viggo Mortensen also packed houses with onstage interviews conducted by Times staffers.
