Italo film fest off to a good start
ROME– It was La Dolce Vita all over again as the RomeFilmFest got off to a glitzy start.
Fireworks and a dinner feting Sean Connery on the Capitoline hill got the ball rolling Oct. 12 before the fest opened.
It was left to Nicole Kidman to break in the Rome Auditorium Oct. 13 as opener “Fur,” segued to a rigorously press-free dinner party.
Italo distrib Medusa did not make that faux pas with its imperial bash for “Napoleon and Me,” in the palatial Villa Massimo on Oct. 14.
Pic’s Monica Bellucci mingled with guests including Medusa topper Giampaolo Letta; pic producer Riccardo Tozzi; helmers Cristina Comencini and Ettore Scola; plus producer Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Earlier that evening Variety entertained some 350 guests at the Cafe Doney on Via Veneto.
Finally, into the wee hours Oct. 16, guests crowded into the TorCrescenza castle to meet or just catch a glimpse of “The Departed’s” Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and Vera Farmiga. Nick Vivarelli contributed to this report.
