'Invincible' preems in Gotham
WHAT: Disney’s Aug. 23 premiere of “Invincible” at Gotham’s Ziegfeld, followed by an after-bash at ESPN Zone in Times Square.
EAGLES NEST: Pic is based on the true story of Philadelphia Eagles fan Vince Papale, who ended up trying out and making the NFL team. “I hadn’t heard of Vince before the film,” pic’s star Mark Wahlberg said of his character. “So when I saw thepiece that NFL Films did on him on I thought, ‘Wow they are going to let me play this guy!’ It’s the biggest Houdini I have pulled off in my career.”
FOUR LETTER WORDS: “The only thing that you don’t get to do in a Disney movie is curse, and you know what — the movie doesn’t really need it,” Wahlberg said.
Pic’s director Ericson Core added: “The actors were all New Yorkers and wanted to swear in the bar scenes because they thought it was appropriate. But then I ended up watching ‘Rocky” with the cast and we were amazed because there is only one swear word in the entire film. We realized you can do it without swearing. Should there be cigarettes? Should there be swearing? Probably. But I think we were fine without it.”
