Venice fetes Lynch with a posh party
VENICE — David Lynch was treated like a doge at the Venice Film Festival, where the helmer from Montana received a career achievement Golden Lion, followed by a posh party in a palazzo on the Grand Canal in celebration of his latest pic, “Inland Empire.”
Guests arrived by motorboat at the jetty of the Palazzo Papadopoli, a rented private residence, where giant “Inland Empire” stills featuring star Laura Dern, in scenes with Jeremy Irons and Justin Theroux, had been placed in the salons filled with portraits of Venetian noblemen, under crystal chandeliers.
Further ensuring their bash mixed antiquity with some hip quotient, pic’s producer Studio Canal, Italo distrib BIM and French fashion house Agnes B had a DJ station in the atrium, manned by New Line’s London-based Alexandra Rossi, who is also a disc-spinner.
Lynch, who looked pleased, mingled with StudioCanal topper Frederic Sichler and BIM’s Valerio De Paolis, as well as with anyone who felt like riding up on him.
