Confab catches Latin fever

NALIP kicks off in Cali

WHAT: The seventh National Assn. of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) confab, March 9-12.

WHO : HBO’s Colin Callender presented the latest HBO movie, “Walkout,” helmed by Edward James Olmos, on opening day, while Variety prexy/publisher Charles C. Koones gave a keynote speech at lunch March 10.

The March 11 awards gala honored producer David Valdes, helmer-scribe Rodrigo Garcia, producer/exhibitor Moctesuma Esparza, Imagen Foundation’s Helen Hernandez and “Mad Hot Ballroom” helmer Marilyn Agrelo.

WHERE : Hyatt Regency, Long Beach, Calif.

VIVA LATINOS : NALIP membership has grown from 250 to 1,000- plus, and it certainly showed at gala night, where the Hyatt ballroom was packed to the rafters.
