Incorporating volume into your seasonal look shouldn't scare you
“Billowy,” “oversized,” and “bubble” are fashion buzz words for fall. They are also adjectives my brother used to describe my ass when I came home from college in the summer of ’88. But incorporating volume into your seasonal look shouldn’t scare you. It shouldn’t make you look like you spent an entire semester washing pop tarts down with rum & diet cokes either.
The way to do it right is by creating shape with a separate and then contrasting it with a sleek silhouette. You don’t want volume above and below the waist.
Instead, go with one or the other. Try pairing wide trousers like these pants from Alice & Olivia ($275; shopbop.com) with a fitted black turtleneck. Or layer this Mike & Chris Ethan hoodie ($135; chocosho.com) over a pair of black leggings or skinny jeans. A bubble skirt or pouf dress calls for tights or leggings, natch. Voila! You got volume–but not too much volume.
