CEO of First Australian Completion Bond Company

Rob Fisher, CEO of First Australian Completion Bond Company and former chairman of federal doc funder Film Australia, died May 11 of cancer in Sydney. He was 63.

Fisher entered the film biz 23 years ago as general manager of production company McElroy & McElroy after spending 22 years as an accountant. During the next eight years, he was finance director and production controller on 12 major film and television productions.

The projects, which included “The Last Frontier,” “Razorback” and “Til There Was You,” filmed throughout Australia, the Pacific basin and Southeast Asia. Through his work at McElroy and McElroy, Fisher developed close working relationships with people at all levels of the film biz.

In 1990 he became chief executive of First Australian Completion Bond Company and established an Asian Pacific representative office for Los Angeles’ Completion Bond Co.

FACB bonded productions including “The Piano,” “Strictly Ballroom,” “Japanese Story,” “Look Both Ways,” “Little Fish,” “The Crocodile Hunter,” “Wolf Creek,” “The World’s Fastest Indian” and “Candy.”

He is survived by his wife Janelle and four children.
