Pimped-out pushcars

Baby strollers get the star treatment

We’re in an age of competitive perambulators.

Where the bright canvas plumage of a Bugaboo stroller used to guarantee a baby looky-loos along with cootchie-coos, baby carriages are now invented by rock stars and profiled in design magazines. Moms who want to stand out in the crowd must brace themselves for pricetags that may seem more appropriate for an Eames chair.

“The stroller is the one baby item that is considered part of your personality,” says Amy Chezem, spokeswoman for the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Assn. “It’s like a car.” With that in mind, here’s a look at this year’s models.
