WB pic takes to TV

World Brief

In what’s probably a first for a major film in release in Japan, the Nippon Television Network is broadcasting the first 12 minutes of “Death Note,” the first installment in Warner Bros.’ two-part horror pic.

The film, helmed by Shusuke Kaneko and based on a bestselling  comic, was released nationwide on June 17 and went straight to No. 1, marking the first time a domestic pic released by a Hollywood distrib had reached that slot.

The “Death Note” broadcasts began Monday in Tokyo, where it will run for six days. It will run for five days in Osaka, starting Tuesday.
