Jay & Tony on the Horizon
The Jay and Tony Show has been greenlit at Warner Horizon to the tune of a new seven-figure overall deal.Shingle headed by writer-producers Jay Blumenfield and Tony Marsh was behind HBO’s recent “Dane Cook’s Tourgasm,” as well as Showtime’s porn-focused skein “Family Business.” Under the two-year pact at Warner Horizon — the new alternative programming arm of Warner Bros. TV — the Jay and Tony Show will develop and produce new projects for the studio. First up, Blumenfield and Marsh are set to pitch a new nonfiction skein loosely inspired by “Welcome to the Neighborhood” — their ABC reality show that never made it to air. That show had Alphabet lawyers (as well as fair housing groups) in a tizzy because of its conceit: A group of Texas neighbors choose who will move into the vacant house next door. This time out, the Jay and Tony Show is looking to build an entire town from scratch. Untitled show will rely on viewers to decide how to create the community. “We wanted to take ‘Welcome to the Neighborhood’ to the next level — and actually get it on the air,” Blumenfield quipped. Blumenfield and Marsh will pitch the project to networks in the coming weeks. The duo are still looking at several locations to produce the show. “We’ve figured out a way where we can pull this off,” Blumenfield said. “The show will center on learning about people and America. On a grand scale, it relates to all the things that we care about. In success, it will become a real living, breathing place.” Blumenfield and Marsh launched the Jay and Tony Show in 2001 and have been on a roll since then, landing on the air shows such as VH1’s “Surviving Nugent,” UPN’s “R U the Girl with T-Boz & Chilli” and “The Road to Stardom With Missy Elliott,” CBS’ “Tuesday Night Book Club” and E!’s “The Chelsea Handler Show” and Spike TV’s “Raising the Roofs.” The duo got their start directing the HBO docu “Small Town Ecstasy” for producer Arnold Shapiro. The Jay and Tony Show is repped by CAA.
