Exec named senior veep of biz news
Financial news net CNBC has named Jonathan Wald senior VP of business news, replacing David Friend, who left the network.
Wald, who will report to network president Mark Hoffman, is a former executive producer of “NBC Nightly News With Tom Brokaw” and “Today.” Wald joined NBC News as a desk assistant in 1983.
After moving to CNBC, he created the net’s 7 p.m. show, “On the Money,” which has been one of the net’s fastest-growing programs.
In his new role, Waldman will oversee all CNBC broadcasts from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. — the biz news net’s primetime — which includes all Business Day shows as well as “Kudlow & Company,” “Mad Money w/ Jim Cramer” and “On the Money.”
CNBC’s Business Day lineup is up 52% in viewers in the second quarter from the same period last year and 86% in the adults 25-54 demographic.
CNBC registers very low Nielsen numbers overall but claims significant at-work viewership on trading floors, offices and business hotels.
