Steinberg flies with Fox’s ‘Frangela’ pilot

Skein to be based on Callier, Shelton comedy routine

David Steinberg has signed on to direct the pilot for Fox’s upcoming buddy comedy “Frangela.”

Steinberg’s TV helming credits include episodes of numerous laffers, including “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “The Comeback,” “Friends” and “Seinfeld.” He also hosts gabber “Sit Down Comedy” for TV Land.

“Frangela” is based on the comedy routine of Frances Callier and Angela V. Shelton, who will produce, write and star in the small-screen adaptation of their stage act. Michael Boatman, Garrett Morris and Mo Collins also star.

Touchstone Television and Brillstein-Grey are producing the half-hour, which is a midseason contender for Fox. As part of Steinberg’s deal to direct “Frangela,” he’ll also serve as exec producer of the project.

David Zuckerman (“Family Guy”) is writing and exec producing the pilot, along with Dan Pasternack, Peter Traugott, Sandy Wernick and Marc Gurvitz.
