Stars come out to stump for Clinton

Fund raiser for Senator's reelection gets celeb treatment

Dozens of industry figures attended a lavish fund raiser for Hillary Clinton’s Senate reelection race on Friday night at the Beverly Hills estate of supermarket magnate Ron Burkle.

Among those who attended were David O’Connor, Rob Reiner, Bryan Singer, Brett Ratner, Bradley Whitford, Jennifer Lopez, Peter Chernin, Dan Glickman and Jon Feltheimer, according to a guest who was there. Co-hosts included Burkle, Haim and Cheryl Saban and Steve Bing.

The event included a private dinner followed by a much larger $1,000-per-person event in which John Fogerty provided entertainment and former President Bill Clinton spoke briefly before his wife took the stage.

On her blog Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington reported that the cost of the dinner was $4,200 per person, the maximum allowed because of campaign contribution limits.

Throughout the evening, Hillary Clinton talked of the importance of Democrats winning back Congress this fall, but there was no reference before the crowd to a spate of stories involving Burkle in recent controversies.

Burkle, a close friend of the Clintons, has been the center of attention in recent weeks when he charged that New York Post Page Six freelancer Jared Paul Stern had attempted to force him to shell out money in exchange for favorable treatment in the column. The New York Times reported last week that, in a separate incident, Burkle also charged embattled private eye Anthony Pellicano with trying to shake him down for money.
