D'Works vet forms consulting firm
With the sale of DreamWorks to Paramount, veteran DreamWorks corporate affairs topper and political strategist Andy Spahn has departed to form his own consulting firm.Spahn, a longtime Democratic consultant and fund-raiser, moved from Washington to L.A. to work for David Geffen’s company. When Geffen formed DreamWorks with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Spahn was tapped to run the studio’s corporate affairs department. He simultaneously managed the personal charitable and political giving of Geffen, Katzenberg and Spielberg. Andy Spahn & Associates, which has set up offices in Universal City, will offer a broad range of services, with a focus on strategic philanthropy, government and public relations. DreamWorks exec Jennifer Gonring has joined the firm as VP. Spahn said the firm would “provide a unique combination of access to Hollywood, Washington, D.C., and all levels of government and the expertise to navigate those worlds with purpose and impact.” Firm’s initial client list includes Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, Katzenberg and wife Marilyn and DreamWorks Animation. While in Washington, Spahn consulted on a number of campaigns — including former Senator Gary Hart’s — as well as serving as special assistant to the chairmen of the Democratic Senatorial and Congressional Campaign Committees.
