Sony taps Davidson for VP

Tom Davidson has been promoted to VP of international networks at Sony Pictures TV Intl.

He will relocate to European headquarters in London and report to Ross Hair, senior VP for foreign channels in Europe.

Davidson will help develop the company’s networks business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with a focus on increasing distribution for global channel brands AXN, Animax and Sony Entertainment Television on traditional pay TV and, increasingly, on broadband and mobile platforms.

“Tom’s leadership has been instrumental in growing our AXN channel in Central Europe from 1 million subscribers at launch in 2003 to nearly 5 million today,” Hair said.

Channels air in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and most of Central Europe.

Davidson was general manager of AXN in Central Europe, based in Budapest, where he was instrumental in driving the action channel’s distribution growth and in boosting its ratings across the region.

Before AXN, Davidson was Sony Pictures Entertainment’s executive director of finance, based at the company’s headquarters in Culver City.
