Raimi faces reality in CW scream skein

Net hopes to air show as early as next summer

Sam Raimi is brewing up a “House of Horrors” for the CW.

Helmer and partner Rob Tapert are developing a hybrid horror/reality skein for the fledgling network. CW execs believe that, once greenlit, the show could be on the air as early as next summer.

Idea for “Horrors” came from Gunnar Witterberg (“Treasure Hunters”), who will serve as co-exec producer of the project. Raimi and Rapert will exec produce, while William Hamm is also onboard as co-exec producer.

Basic premise of “Horrors” has competitors trying to stay “alive” in a mysterious house in which they must face their darkest fears. One by one, players are “killed off” via elaborately staged “deaths” that will mix elements of the reality and horror genres.

Rather than going for gruesome chills, a la “Saw,” it’s believed “Horrors” will attempt to pull off the sort of “fun” scares found in pics such as the “Scream” franchise.

CW execs have no doubt picked up on B.O. data showing young femmes flocking to horror pics at the multiplex. Net’s target demo is women under the age of 35.

In addition to the “Spider-Man” franchise, Raimi’s credits in the horror/thriller genre include “The Evil Dead,” “Army of Darkness” and “The Gift.”

Helmer-producer’s TV credits stretch back a decade to the syndie “Hercules” and “Cleopatra” weekly strips, which he exec produced. He also created the Fox skein “M.A.N.T.I.S.”

Project was packaged by CAA.
