News Now bows on India’s Dish TV

Channel to make int'l debut on direct-to-home service

MUMBAI — The Alphabet’s News Now will make its international debut on Subash Chandra’s direct-to-home Dish TV Service.

The channel is expected to go on air toward the end of the year after obtaining the required permissions from the Indian Information & Broadcasting Ministry.

ABC News prexy David Westin announced the deal at Mipcom.

Dish TV, with more than 1.2 million subscribers, leads India’s three DTH players. Other service providers include pubcaster Doordarshan’s DD Direct+ and the recently launched News Corp.-Tata joint venture Tata Sky. Reliance’s BlueMagic and Sun Network’s Sun Direct TV have gotten governmental greenlight, but are yet to start operations.
