NEW YORK — Edward Menicheschi, prexy of WWD Media Worldwide, has been named vice president and publisher of Vanity Fair, the magazine’s owner Conde Nast announced Wednesday.

He replaces Alan Katz, who is leaving the company.

His successor at WWD Media Worldwide, another Conde Nast property, will be named soon.

Menicheschi oversaw Women’s Wear Daily, WWD.com, DNR and Footwear News since 2001. Prior to joining Fairchild Publications, he was president of talent search Web site Iam.com. He was associate publisher and executive editor of Vogue in the 1990s, and, previously, exec editor of GQ.

He graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Katz joined Vanity Fair only a year ago from now-defunct men’s monthly Cargo. He is said to have clashed with Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter.
