A terrestrial high-definition service is unlikely to launch in the U.K. until after the digital switchover in 2012.A recent trial in 450 London households by terrestrial broadcasters BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five reported high levels of satisfaction. The lack of spare spectrum means auds must buy high-def packages from either BSkyB or cable combo NTL. Some 98% of those who took part said it was important to have HD on Freeview, the digital terrestrial platform, while 86% expected the service within three years.
