Race is on for Malkin, Thumann, Berg at Peacock

Feature scribes Larry Malkin and Chad Thumann are teaming with helmer Peter Berg for the reverse-time thriller “Deadline.”

NBC is developing the one-hour project, with NBC U Television Studio and Berg’s Film 44 onboard to produce. Skein is designed to be a “24″-like conspiracy thriller, but with the story told in reverse (a la “Memento”).

Berg, whose NBC drama “Friday Night Lights” premieres tonight, is onboard to exec produce “Deadline.” He’s also loosely attached to direct, contingent on his schedule.

Malkin and Thumann will write and co-exec produce what will be their first TV project. Duo wrote (and Malkin directed) “Five Fingers,” the upcoming Laurence Fishburne/Ryan Phillippe feature being released by Lionsgate.

Berg’s Film 44, a partnership with Sarah Aubrey, recently inked a multiyear overall deal with NBC U TV Studio (Daily Variety, Aug. 3). Helmer — who also has a separate first-look feature deal at Universal — is directing U’s “The Kingdom,” starring Jamie Foxx.

Justin Levy heads up TV development for Film 44.

Malkin and Thumann are repped by UTA and Principal Entertainment. Film 44 is repped by Endeavor.
